Nudging a habit – Handwashing in schools
This RCT aims to answer questions about the impacts of specific social/cultural settings on nudging and its effects over time on children’s behavioural change in terms of handwashing.
This RCT replicated previous research in Bangladesh which showed that painting behavioral “nudges” in schools dramatically increased handwashing with soap following latrine visits. In Vietnam, reseach findings showed that nudges had a positive (although less dramatic) effect on handwashing practices, but the availability of soap and water in schools remains a major constraint.
