Study to evaluate the effect of combining hygiene education with deworming – Baseline soil-transmitted helminths prevalence and intensity survey
This research seeks to assess the effect of combined de-worming and hygiene interventions on worm prevalence in school-aged children.
The prevalence of worm infection among primary school children in the province was low, however, in some districts such as Cam Khe and Tam Nong, infection rates remained above 20%. As reported by NIMPE, the coverage of deworming in Phu Tho is quite high (over 98%), therefore, it is necessary to combine hygiene education with deworming for primary school children to prevent re-infection of worms, especially in districts with high-infection and heavy-infection.
